How do we teach 'old dogs' new tricks?

It's easy for the industry to become trapped in our own perceptions of what we know or what we consider to be absolute truths. For example, we often assume that all water sources are H2O, but that may not be the full picture.

Do we truly recognize real innovation when it is presented to us? Consider how long it has taken to engage with emerging technologies. Why do we still rely on outdated, "dumb" timers? Please don't just say it's because they’re cheap.

Having an open mind is essential for advancing technology and integrating it into the mainstream of our industry. I recall being scolded by an "older" industry veteran 20 years ago for reintroducing 2-wire systems, with the claim that it would never gain traction. How times have changed!
